Parent Involvement

Welcome from the ECE Committee at Temple Beth Hillel!

We consider ourselves fortunate to have our children enrolled in one of Temple Beth Hillel’s high quality Early Childhood Education programs. Whether it is a Parent and Me, Transition, Nursery School or Mechina class, we believe that our child’s experience, as well as our own, can be significantly enhanced by being involved parents. We encourage you to come to one of our general meetings and learn more about how you can participate in exciting and fun ECE events and classroom activities.

ECE Committee Chairperson: Myrna Coen
Serves as ECE Liaison on the Board of Trustees at Temple Beth Hillel; leads ECE Committee meetings; monitors progress of the various subcommittees of the ECE committee; reports ECE committee activities and progress to the ECE Director.

Fundraising:

The ECE Department brings many special enrichment programs to our school, including Captain Carl and his mobile tide pools, Mark Beckwith and his pink pig puppet, Puey, reptiles, Bubble Mania and Mechina field trips. We help to ensure that these programs continue to enrich our children’s preschool education by raising funds through product sales and fundraising “drives.” In addition, this year we hope to raise funds to add some fun new activities to our preschool play yard.

Special Events/Special Projects:

Early Childhood will be running the bake sale at Temple Beth Hillel’s Mitzvah Day, which will be held the first Sunday in November. The Purim Carnival is also a fun event with many volunteer opportunities.

Holiday Events:
Chairperson: Shayna Alpert & Jennifer Cowgill
Celebrate! ECE has special holiday events throughout the year which include: the Thanksgiving Feast, Chanukah Party, Passover Model Seder, and much much more. You can help by shopping for food items for holiday events or, on the day of the event, help set up, serve, and clean up.

TIME: Fifteen minutes to two hours per event

Challah:
Chairperson: Evelyn Drapkin & Shayna Alpert
Children love Shabbat and eating challah. Friday mornings, help laus distribute the challah to classrooms and cubbies for Shabbat.

TIME: Friday mornings at 9:00 am, about 30-45 minutes

Room Parents/Caring Community:
Chairperson: Shana Ballas
Classroom volunteers thatneeded to help distribute information and reminders to class parents by email, post sign-up sheets in rooms for various activities and act as an additional resourse to teachers. Room parents help other parents in the class come together as a “caring community” during a time of possible need such as; a death in the family, serious illness or the birth of child.

Yearbook:
Chairperson: Jessica Rutten
Smile! Yearbook volunteers create a wonderful yearbook filled with the many precious moments of ECE children throughout the school year.Help take pictures and capture those special moments at holiday events, enrichment activities, at play on the playground, and in the classroom.Volunteers are also needed to help with putting the yearbook together which includes downloading pictures and arranging pages on the computer.

TIME: Varies – at school or from home computer

Parent & Me:
Chairperson: Jennifer Cowgill
Help with the Parent & Me electronic newsletter.Work with the Parent & Me Liaison to involve those families in ECE and Temple activities.Be a “buddy” for a Parent & Me family.Invite them to join you and your family at a Tot Shabbat Service or Temple events.Committee members will also act as a resource to help guide our Parent & Me families through the next stages of education at TBH.

Are you a social butterfly? Help to welcome and engage new ECE families into our TBH-ECE Community by involving them in ECE and TBH activities; invite them to join you and your family for Tot Shabbat, and act as an overall resource.
