To help you with the selection process, we have given you a list of things to consider when hiring vendors. At minimum, you should check references, see samples of past work, and obtain quotations in writing. Best wishes for a happy simcha! CATERERS Ask prospective caterers: - Do they use all fresh food and produce? Will any of the food be frozen or canned?
- What will be done with the leftovers? You may chose to have the food donated to a homeless shelter or packed up and brought home.
- Check to see if the caterer’s quote is based on a minimum number of guests. Make sure you plan to meet this minimum.
- Does the caterer supply linens and rentals? What are the costs?
- Will the catering company provide a wait-staff? What is the required dress code for their staff? Be sure to ask the caterer if taxes and gratuity are included in the final bid.

^ GO TO TOP DECORATIONS Things to consider when planning decorations: - Style: Consider the designer’s philosophy—minimalist, traditional, elegant, edgy—and determine whether it matches your style preferences.
- Samples: Before choosing decorations, it is very important to see samples of your professional’s work. Start with pictures but also look at live samples. For flowers, check to see if petal edges look fresh without brown edges.
- Budget considerations: In general, balloons are less expensive than flowers. Does the florist or balloon vendor’s quotation include delivery and set-up if desired?
- Has your decorator worked at your site before? If so, he/she may have pictures of arrangements that work well.
