Welcome Statement

Welcome from the ECE Committee at Temple Beth Hillel!
We consider ourselves fortunate to have our children enrolled in one of Temple Beth Hillel’s high quality Early Childhood Education programs. Whether it is a Parent and Me, Transition, Nursery School or Mechina class, we believe that our child’s experience, as well as our own, can be significantly enhanced by being involved parents. We encourage you to come to one of our general meetings and learn more about how you can participate in exciting and fun ECE events and classroom activities.

ECE COMMITTEE MEETING DATES:
Meetings are on Thursdays, beginning at 9:15 am,
in the Sands-Mallet Social Hall

September 16, October 21, November 18, December 16,
January 20 (2011), February 17, March 17, April 14, May 19

ECE Committee: Positions are voluntary and are appointed by the ECE Committee Chairperson and ECE Director, annually, beginning July 1st. There are no term limits. The ECE Committee Chairperson and Sub-Committee Chairperson must have at least one child enrolled in the ECE program at the time of service and must be in good standing regarding tuition payments.

Serves as ECE Liaison on the Board of Trustees at Temple Beth Hillel; leads ECE Committee meetings; monitors progress of the various subcommittees of the ECE committee; reports ECE committee activities and progress to the ECE Director.

SUB-COMMITTEES OF THE ECE COMMITTEE:

Fundraising:            Chairperson: Myrna Coen & Chrisie Rosenthal
ECE offers many special enrichment programs at our school, for example, Captain Carl and his mobile tide pools, Teresa and her reptiles, Bubblemania and Mark Beckwith and his pink pig puppet, Puey.  This committee creates fundraisers, such as, wrapping paper, magazine, Mables Labels and Farm Fresh To You Sales.  The sale of these products makes sure that special enrichment programs continue at our school.  In addition, this year we hope to raise funds to purchase new play equipment and toys for our small pres-school yard.

ECE will be providing the baked goods and also working at the bake sale held during Temple Beth Hillel's Mitzvah Day, Sunday, November 7th.  Also, the Purim Carnival returns to TBH this year and there will be many opportunities to volunteer.

Holiday/Shabbat Events:          Chairperson:  Jennifer Cowgill &

Celebrate!  ECE has special holiday/Shabbat events throughout the  school year.  They include the Thanksgiving Feast, a Chanukah Party, a Passover Model Seder and Special Person Shabbat.  Committee members help by shopping for food items for these events or, on the day of the event,  help by setting up, serving and cleaning up.
          TIME: About two hours per event

Challah:                           Chairperson:  Evelyn Drapkin
Children love Shabbat and eating challah.  Friday mornings, after drop off, committee members help label and then distribute challah to the classrooms and cubbies for Shabbat.
          TIME: Friday mornings at 9:00 am for about 30-45 minutes

Room Parents:                Chairperson: Alexis Leland
Each classroom has parent volunteers that help pass along class information and event reminders to other classroom parents by email or telephone calls.  Room parents will also help create a caring community within each classroom, bringing families closer together by making everyone aware of family simchas and life's challenges.

Yearbook:                Chairperson:  Lori Schlaifer
Smile!  Yearbook volunteers create a wonderful yearbook filled with the many precious moments of ECE children throughout the school year.  Help take pictures and capture those special moments at holiday events, enrichment activities, at play on the playground, and in the classroom.  Volunteers are also needed to help with putting the yearbook together which includes downloading pictures and arranging pages on the computer.

Parent & Me:          Chairperson:  Rebecca Pathak
Help with the Parent & Me electronic newsletter.  Work with the Parent & Me Liaison to involve those families in ECE and Temple activities.  Be a "buddy" for a Parent & Me family.  Invite them to join you and your family at a Tot Shabbat Service or Temple events.  Committee members will also act as a resource to help guide our Parent & Me families through the next stages of education at TBH.
